Doximity is investing more in artificial intelligence (AI) as the adoption of its clinical tools widens and is expecting hospitals to become major buyers of healthcare AI platforms.
The US-based digital platform for medical professionals plans to expand its clinical AI products, including Scribe, its AI-powered note-taking tool, and Ask, its clinical AI assistant and medical search engine. The company aims to build a broader digital assistant for doctors by combining AI with its existing workflow and telehealth services.
Eight of the top US hospitals are among the 165 health institutions that Doximity has signed on as AI clients. Recent customers include Northwestern, Penn Medicine and the University of Michigan. CEO Jeff Tangney expects healthcare AI purchasing to shift from individual doctors to hospitals as health systems focus more on data privacy, security and reliable results.
The company’s first-quarter sales for fiscal 2027 were $156.6 million, up 7% from $146 million in the same period last year. While adjusted EBITDA dropped 6% to $75 million, net income dropped from $53 million to $24 million.
Doximity raised its full-year revenue forecast to $671 million-$681 million from $664 million-$676 million previously. It expects adjusted EBITDA of $309 million-$329 million.
The company said nearly half of its quarterly active workflow prescribers used its AI tools during the quarter. AI prompt volume rose more than 25% from the previous quarter, while Scribe users increased tenfold in July from a year earlier.
According to Tangney, Doximity sees the present as a crucial time for AI investment. He expects hospitals to increasingly select approved AI platforms based on accuracy, privacy and safety rather than allowing doctors to choose tools independently.
