Amazon Pharmacy, the pharmacy unit of e-commerce giant Amazon, will stock Eli Lilly’s new weight-loss pill at kiosks inside some of its primary care clinics and offer same-day delivery of the drug, the company announced recently.
The move builds on Amazon Pharmacy’s existing relationship with GLP-1 medications. The unit has been delivering such drugs since 2021, but could not stock injectable versions at kiosks as those require refrigeration. The new pill eliminates that barrier. A vice president at Amazon Pharmacy said the absence of cold storage requirements is what allows the drug to be stored safely at kiosks and dispensed more widely.
Currently, around half of customers across the United States have access to same-day delivery. The company is working to expand that coverage further. For those outside the same-day delivery zone, all customers receive their medications within four days, regardless of location.
Amazon Pharmacy fulfils prescriptions placed through LillyDirect, Eli Lilly’s direct-to-consumer platform. The pharmacy has also been stocking Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy pill at its kiosks since the start of the year, reflecting a broader push to bring oral weight-loss medications closer to patients through convenient retail points.
