The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) performed a Class II recall of over 64,800 pounds of NH European Style Butter Blend due to the fact that it discovered the butter blend contained undeclared milk, which is a very common allergen. The recall by Bunge North America Inc. was originally made on July 14, 2025, and later corrected to be a Class II on July 30, 2025.
The recalled butter was distributed in 12 US retail stores and one store in the Dominican Republic. Each case contains 36 one-pound packages of butter in white paperboard containers with UPC 1 00 78684 73961 2 and lot code 5064036503. There has been no reported disease or allergic reaction as of yet regarding this product.
A Class II recall means that while there is risk of short- or reversible adverse health effects on a medical level, severe or permanent harm is not likely. But in milk-allergic persons, ingestion of milk protein can cause violent reactions like hives, vomiting, gastrointestinal disturbance, or anaphylactic shock that can be fatal.
The FDA emphasized allergen labelling enforcement of the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA). Merchants who sell this butter are asked to conduct a complete examination of product packaging and reject or return the item if it is an affected lot. Milk-allergic consumers are warned to avoid consuming the product at all.
