Leaders in the food and healthcare supplement industry provide strategic direction to global consumers concerning health and wellness. Most market-dominating players dominate in vast portfolios of innovative offerings directed at the evolving needs of conscious health consumers. Their expanding focus on personalized nutrition, together with preventive healthcare, drives a long-term interest in health as a vital aspect of overall wellbeing rather than an immediate response to issues.

Among such leading companies is Gelpell AG, established 20 years ago, which is now turning out to be one of the forerunners in the healthcare and food supplement industry, from Switzerland. The company had begun with the vision to innovate nutritional solutions, and a lot of this vision was really transformed with the leadership taken up by Kristina and Tomas Edvinsson a decade ago. They identified the potential of Gelpell® beadlet technology in terms of optimizing nutrient bioavailability and thus setting a new benchmark for the supplement sector.

Gelpell always has a patient-centric approach. Operating tightly with the healthcare professionals the company creates formulations that make relevant to real needs of real patients under very stringent standards of Swiss quality. By proprietary technology enhancing nutrient assimilation, the company guarantees better health results and moves ahead of its competitors within the scope of preventive medicine.

Kristina Edvinsson, Owner and General Manager represents a legacy of excellence within the nutritional supplement industry. Kristiana has targeted the rich history of her family in health solutions as a drive for innovation at Gelpell AG. Her drive has promoted growth in capacity and offering more products, but she does not compromise on quality and sustainability.

We were in conversation with Kristiana regarding company’s journey, their primary products and services and many more. Let’s move on to that.

Can you tell us about the origin and journey of your company? What was the inspiration behind starting this healthcare enterprise, and how has it evolved over the years?

Gelpell AG was established 20 years ago with a vision to innovate in the healthcare and food supplement industry. Ten years ago, my husband and I took over the company, motivated by the immense potential we saw in its proprietary Gelpell® beadlet technology. This innovation allows for optimized bioavailability of nutrients, setting a new standard in the supplement industry. Over the years, we have expanded our portfolio, entered global markets, and built a reputation for quality and innovation while maintaining a strong foundation in Switzerland.

What are the primary services and products that define your company? How do these offerings contribute to the advancement of healthcare in Switzerland?

At Gelpell AG, our core products include Gelpell® beadlets, soft gel and hard gel capsule manufacturing, and turnkey packaging solutions such as blisters and bottles. Our patented Gelpell® beadlet technology enhances nutrient stability and bioavailability, contributing to better patient outcomes. These products, alongside our commitment to stringent Swiss quality standards, ensure we support the healthcare sector with reliable, effective, and cutting-edge solutions.

In what ways has your company embraced innovation and cutting-edge technology? Can you share examples of how these innovations are shaping patient care and improving health outcomes?

Innovation lies at the heart of Gelpell AG. Our Gelpell® beadlet technology, for example, encapsulates active ingredients in a gel matrix, protecting them from oxidation and ensuring controlled release. This technology has been a game-changer in improving nutrient absorption, particularly in our flagship products featuring ubiquinol and other bioactive compounds. By enhancing bioavailability, we’re directly improving the efficacy of supplements and advancing preventive healthcare.

How does your company ensure a patient-centred approach in your operations? What are some of the key practices or strategies that have helped you maintain a focus on the patient experience?

We adopt a patient-centred approach by focusing on quality, efficacy, and transparency. Collaborating closely with healthcare professionals, we ensure that our formulations are not only innovative but also address real patient needs. Additionally, our products undergo rigorous testing to guarantee safety and effectiveness, giving patients and providers the confidence they seek in supplements.

What are some of the significant challenges you’ve faced in the Swiss healthcare market? How have you navigated these challenges, and what opportunities do you see for growth in the future?

Navigating the regulatory landscape in Switzerland, with its high compliance standards, has been both a challenge and an opportunity. Our commitment to excellence has allowed us to turn this challenge into a strength, positioning Gelpell as a trusted brand. Looking ahead, we see opportunities in expanding our reach in longevity-focused supplements and personalized nutrition solutions, which align with global health trends.

How is your company addressing sustainability and long-term health impact? Are there specific initiatives or practices that set your company apart in terms of social responsibility?

Sustainability is integral to our operations. We prioritize eco-friendly sourcing of raw materials, energy-efficient manufacturing, and minimal waste generation. Additionally, our innovations like Gelpell® beadlets contribute to long-term health impact by improving the efficacy of supplements, thus reducing the need for higher dosages and excessive consumption.

How important are partnerships and collaborations in driving success for your company? Can you share any impactful partnerships that have helped further your mission?

Partnerships are vital for our success. Collaborations with amazing brands such as Medicom Pharma GmbH among many others, we are proud to be associated with, have enabled us to scale our operations and bring cutting-edge products like ubiquinol to wider audiences. Strategic alliances with research institutions and industry peers have also driven innovation and market expansion.

What advice would you offer to emerging leaders and startups in Switzerland’s healthcare sector? Based on your experience, what key lessons should they focus on as they shape the future of healthcare?

My advice is to remain relentlessly patient-focused while embracing innovation. Invest in research, understand the regulatory framework deeply, and prioritize sustainability. Collaboration is another key lesson—by working together, the industry can achieve breakthroughs that benefit not just patients but also the ecosystem as a whole.
