Startup Suvi Health has developed an ambient artificial intelligence platform aimed at helping patients and families navigate the gap between hospital care teams and home recovery. The platform listens to bedside conversations and turns them into a shared plan that patients, families and care teams can follow, the company said.
Designed for use both in hospital and after discharge, the platform lets patients revisit recorded conversations to recall medical instructions, share details with caregivers, review medication schedules and prepare for follow-up visits. Suvi Health CEO and co-founder Kelly Benning said the idea grew from personal experience wanting to understand hospital conversations happening with a loved one, and she wanted to put that understanding directly in patients’ hands.
Suvi Health CTO and co-founder Shawn Albert said the platform was built to work quietly in the background so care teams could focus more on patients and less on coordination.
The startup was incubated within the 1842 Studio, a venture arm backed by the University of Notre Dame, and partnered with Mayo Clinic Florida to co-develop the platform. Mayo Clinic Florida is piloting the tool with heart failure patients, aiming to improve coordination and reduce hospital stays. Benning noted that length of stay emerged as one of Mayo’s biggest challenges during early discussions.
The platform uses device connectivity to record conversations automatically when care team members enter a room, without requiring anyone to press a button. Patients can also use a chatbot restricted to their own care conversations and Mayo’s health information library, which Benning said prevents inaccurate responses.
