Let’s delve into the interview details below!
Can you tell us a bit about your journey and what inspired you to become a Nutrition Expert and Certified Diabetes Educator?
From a young age, I was deeply influenced by my parents’ commitment to health and wellness. My mother, far ahead of her time, prioritized balanced meals and made seasonal vegetable juices a part of our daily routine. My father, a sportsperson, instilled in us the importance of staying active. I’ve always been drawn to fields with real-life application—something that becomes a part of everyday living. When I enrolled in a course in Food and Nutrition, it felt like home. Over the years, I’ve discovered that my true strength lies in looking beyond the symptoms to understand the root cause of health issues—and addressing them with empathy. Working with people, understanding their stories, and helping them heal is not just what I do—it’s who I am. I can’t imagine myself in a profession that doesn’t involve that human connection.
What has been the most defining moment in your professional journey so far, especially in the space of therapeutic medical nutrition?
Some of the most defining moments in my career include helping a patient overcome long-standing tinnitus and normalize high cholesterol through lifestyle changes; supporting a young individual in reducing an alarming HbA1c level from 17 to 5.4 in just three months with targeted interventions; and guiding a patient with stubborn facial burn marks—unresponsive to various treatments—to visible healing by addressing nutrition, sleep, and lifestyle patterns.
As someone deeply involved in therapeutic nutrition, what are the key conditions or issues you primarily focus on while working with clients?
I specialize in therapeutic nutrition to manage a wide range of conditions—from diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, MODY, LADA, gestational, and pre-diabetes) to kidney health, pregnancy, lactation, and children’s nutrition—while also supporting women through PCOS, menopause, hormonal imbalances, and addressing digestive and skin-related issues through a personalized, holistic approach.
How do you personalize nutrition plans for individuals, especially those dealing with chronic conditions like diabetes?
Personalization is at the heart of my approach. I begin by understanding the individual’s complete health profile, including medical history, lab reports, lifestyle patterns, stress levels, sleep quality, and food preferences. For someone with diabetes—whether it’s Type 1, Type 2, or gestational—it’s not just about reducing sugar intake; it’s about balancing macronutrients, optimizing meal timings, and improving insulin sensitivity through tailored lifestyle interventions.
Can you share a memorable success story or transformation that stands out in your career?
One success story that stands out is my time at CareFit, where I was proud to be recognized with top-rated consumer awards and consistently ranked as one of the most loved health coaches—driven by strong patient results and lasting transformations. It was a meaningful validation of my holistic, results-driven approach to health and wellness and the impact it had on people’s lives.
What are some common misconceptions about medical nutrition therapy you often come across? How do you address them?
A common misconception about medical nutrition therapy is that it revolves around restrictive diets. In reality, I focus on balance, sustainability, and personalization—helping clients understand that nutrition can be empowering rather than limiting. For instance, I once worked with a newly diagnosed diabetic patient from Odisha. She had stopped eating rice, believing it was necessary to manage her condition, but saw no improvement. What many don’t realize is that cultural foods are closely tied to our genetics and microbiome, and eliminating them can sometimes do more harm than good. Once I reintroduced her traditional regional rice in a structured way, her blood sugar levels improved significantly, and her medication requirements reduced.
How do you see the role of nutrition evolving in the medical field over the next few years, particularly with the rise in lifestyle-related diseases?
In the coming years, healthcare will shift toward more preventive and holistic approaches, with nutrition at the forefront. It will evolve from being a supportive element to a central pillar of medical care—empowering individuals to take control of their health and reduce dependence on medication. Since COVID, there’s been a noticeable shift in how people view health—especially with the rise in lifestyle-related diseases driven by sedentary routines. We’ve seen growing awareness around the importance of proactive wellness, with increased focus on yoga, meditation, and preventive care. Nutrition, in particular, is no longer seen as just an afterthought during doctor visits. People are beginning to recognize it as a cornerstone of daily wellbeing and disease prevention, and I believe this mindset will only grow stronger in the years to come.
What advice would you give to aspiring nutrition professionals and individuals looking to take control of their health through nutrition?
To aspiring nutrition professionals: stay curious and keep learning—nutrition science is constantly evolving. Stay close to technology, leverage data, and keep updating your skills to stay relevant. Most importantly, know your worth and don’t settle for less—this field plays a vital role in preventive healthcare. Develop empathy, because nutrition is as much about understanding people as it is about food. For individuals looking to take charge of their health: start with small, sustainable changes. Focus on balance—incorporate whole foods, prioritize sleep, stay hydrated, and move your body regularly. Nutrition isn’t a quick fix; it’s a lifelong companion to help you feel your best every single day.
I took my passion for health a step further by founding a D2C healthy snack startup called The Mom Made (@the.mom.made) which brings together nutrition, taste, and convenience for modern families.
